GORDON MULLS CONDUCTING PROBE INTO BOC FIRE

March 01, 2019 Press Releases

Senator Richard J. Gordon disclosed that the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is mulling conducting an investigation into the fire that razed a building of the Bureau of Customs last week, where documents and equipment were destroyed because they were drenched when the firefighters put out the flames.

"We are considering investigating the issue, but we are still studying it and gathering data and evidence. The Blue Ribbon Committee can conduct investigations when warranted even if Congress is on recess," he said.

Gordon, chairman of the Committee on Accountability of Public Officers & Investigations or Blue Ribbon, explained that the said committee can conduct motu proprio investigations into issues and controversies.

The fire, which lasted for almost 10 hours, started at about 9 p.m. at the part of the building near Gate 3 of the South Harbor last Friday. The blaze gutted the third and fourth floors of the building.

But while, the first and second floors of the building were not licked by the flames, documents and equipment were drenched in water when the firefighters put out the flames.
